Instagram is celebrating its fifth anniversary this October. In the five years since it launched, the picture and video social sharing site has in excess of three hundred million monthly active users and is growing rapidly.
These users share seventy million images a day across the site and across other social networks. While the site is perhaps most famous for celebrity profile snaps, the rise of the now ubiquitous ‘Selfies’ and the cultural phenomenon such as ‘Throwback Thursday’ or ‘#TBT’ images, one thing is for sure – Instagram is only going to get bigger.
It is particularly popular with the ‘Millennial’ generation and is no surprise that fifty-three percent of users are between eighteen and twenty-nine years of age.
Almost a quarter of users are college graduates and almost three-quarters live outside of the US, which is unusual for an American social networking site.
