The wait is over, Starbucks is finally coming to South Africa. Although, like all awesome things, it’s landing in Joburg first. Thanks to the work of Taste Holdings, the international coffee giant with over 22 000 stores is set to open its doors in 2016 with other locations to quickly follow.
Taste Holdings will own and operate the stores directly, and certain rights for other African countries are included. In line with Taste’s commitment to uplifting communities, coffee sourced from sub-Saharan Africa will be increased.
Starbucks president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Kris Engskov, says that the South African and southern African coffee market is vibrant and growing: “We want to be part of that growth.”
