Amazon is creating hundreds of new jobs in South Africa through the expansion of its Cape Town customer service and development teams. The expansion will bring the local team to 600 full-time employees by the end of the year, with an additional 400 seasonal jobs during peak holiday times.
“We’re delighted to be hiring hundreds of new employees in South Africa to help us serve customers around the world,” says Scott Sommers, senior site leader for the Cape Town center. “Our continued growth is because of the great team that we’ve built today and the continued support that we’ve received from Premier Zille and other officials.”
According to Premier Helen Zille, Amazon’s expansion in Cape Town is a testament to the work and service ethics of the people of the Western Cape. “We have the people as well as the infrastructure to support customer and back office processes for some of the world’s biggest brands,” she adds.
“Amazon is customer-obsessed and that drives everything we do,” says Sommers. “When a customer calls in, we want to solve their problem above all else, and our employees are empowered to do what’s right for the customer.”
