Using your cat’s name as your password isn’t as unsafe as you might think. Especially considering that Top of Form ‘password’ has been usurped as the world’s worst password by the number sequence ‘123456’.
As hard as it may be to believe, internet users also like to use ‘qwerty’ and ‘abc123’ to access their accounts.
SplashData just released its annual Worst Passwords list, which also featured ‘111111’ and ‘iloveyou’ in the top 10.
Like other password experts, SplashData encouraged internet users to opt for “passphrases” – a bunch of random words, numbers and characters, like ‘cakes years birthday’ – that are easy to remember, but harder for online scam artists to crack.
Users are also advised to avoid using the same username/password combination for multiple websites.
