The programme allows the chartered accountancy profession to assist SMEs while contributing to Enterprise Development as part of their commitment to the Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) Codes of Good Practice.
The BEI provides mentorship for entrepreneurs. The programme draws on the enormous wealth of knowledge, experience and skills among SAICA members. These volunteer chartered accountants provide hands-on and in-depth mentorship, training and financial advice to emerging businesses. SAICA members provide 30 hours of mentorship for free, either as an individual or as a firm.
How it works:
The BEI programme starts with a workshop attended by suitable mentors and selected entrepreneurs. Chartered accountants are paired with specific businesses to ensure the best possible results. The mentor and entrepreneur then enter into a partnership agreement, which sets out the basic rules and ensures that both parties receive value. During the six-month partnership, the mentor regularly meets with the entrepreneur. This gives the chartered accountant a deep and intimate understanding of the businesses, and the entrepreneur’s, shortfalls and limitations.
