Manufactured from storage containers, 72 number of solar powered panels generate 18,000 watts of power to help provide electricity to the poorer communities.
Tariq Yusuf and Rudi van Der Westhuizen began ePower Holdings with the intention to supply sustainable alternatives to paraffin, candle and other products to areas with minimum or no access to power.
The first 40-foot container is now fully operational in Mooiplaas, Centurion and will provide an integrated Renewable Energy System that is designed to lessen the energy burdens on low income areas.
The Solar powered epower containers will allow these communities to charge their phones, watch television from their home and in addition provide a social space to mingle with each other around the container.
Some of ePower’s products include the Super Mega Power which is an energy storing device that comes with an LED light strip capable of providing light to an entire room. This device does not radiate heat and therefore eliminates fire hazards. It is also capable of charging batteries.
The Charging Station: Holds the capacity of being able to charge 3000 batteries per day. This station will work on charging vouchers which can be purchased. The customer can exchange his/her old battery for a new one which means that customers do not have to wait for their battery to be charged. It can simply be exchanged for a new one.
Free wifi connectivity and Internet browsing capabilities: this solar hub provides free wi fi connectivity to those living around the community.
The community cinema services is a wonderful opportunity for entertainment and socialising purposes.
“This idea benefits communities in the developing world that do not have reliable access to electricity – most of whom have cell phones,” explains Tariq.
“It is important to note that one quarter of the world’s population is still without electricity and we are hopeful that this system will assist in this power crisis.”
“These stations provide an alternative that will lessen the pressure on the power grid and will help better the lives of those in rural areas that struggle with access to power solutions,” adds Rudi.
