Three entrepreneurs are launching a new project, Start-UP in May 2013. Designed to empower and inspire South African entrepreneurs and start-ups, Start-UP’s line-up includes Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Inc, Dr John Demartini, Raymond Aaron, Andy Harrington, Tim Ferriss, author of The Start-Up of You, Ben Casnocha and Charles Leadbeater.
“We want to give delegates the confidence and knowledge to take the plunge and run with their inner entrepreneur,” says Startupyourproject.com co-founder Judy van Niekerk.
“We really believe that start-ups empower communities through creating employment and skills enhancement, which will necessitate the need for improved public sector infrastructure, which will ultimately create more employment and contribute substantially to the growth of the country’s GDP,” she adds.
Getting involved
Start-UP is aiming to reach 4 500 entrepreneurs, although its founders want 1 000 of those to be start-ups from disadvantaged communities.
“We are looking for funders to pledge donations that will cover these entrepreneurs, exposing them to global leaders and masters from around the world under one roof who will be sharing their experiences and knowledge in a series of talks, interviews, and masterclasses.”
Based on a crowd-funding model, donations range from approximately R77 to R7 000, and Start-UP is offering incentives to interested funders as well.
