Entries for this year’s Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) awards might be closed, but the EOY project continues in the shape of SME workshops.
“The EOY project has a mandate to uplift the SME community of South Africa through various initiatives, and we believe that education is key,” says Vicky Nish, manager of Entrepreneur of the Year. “Entrepreneurs have less time than the average person, but need to have the value that experts can bring to their business.”
Educational strides
Entrepreneurship has always been important in developing the country financially, and South Africa strives to encourage and support the pool of talented local business entrepreneurs – for they will be the main creators of opportunities and wealth in the future.
“At Entrepreneur of the Year, we believe that a business is never successful enough to ignore the fundamentals,” says Nish. “The best advice that we can offer any entrepreneurs is to continually learn from the successes, and even failures, of others.”
Four highly successful speakers, in conjunction with EOY, will be hosting a workshop that highlights the important business fundamentals of the 21st century: leadership, financial power, social media, and customer retention. Speakers at the workshop include Gary Bailey, who will deliver a presentation on leadership and the significant parallels that can be drawn between leadership and sport; Ralph Patmore, who discusses understanding and utilising financial statements; Michael Jackson, who discusses the importance of implementing social media strategies; and Iain Johnston, with his presentation on the art of finding and retaining customers.
