The annual schools and universities JSE Liberty Investment Challenge has gotten underway.
The educational youth programme is aimed at introducing high school learners and university students to the world of investment and teaches them the fundamentals of investment strategy.
This is a great opportunity for each student to get insights into how to invest and the importance of investing on the exchange.
R1-million initial investment
The game requires learners to form teams who will be given an imaginary sum of R1 000 000 each to invest in JSE-listed shares. Each team’s performance is tracked and measured in a competition against other teams taking part in the Challenge.
Substantial prizes at stake
- Each month the best performing school team in each game will win R3 000.
- There are five top prizes for the annual winners valued at R60 000 per portfolio in the schools challenge.
- The university challenge has three top prizes also valued at R60 000 plus an all-expenses paid trip to an international stock exchange.
The competition ends on 27 September and the winners will be announced in October 2013.
Financial literacy vital
Julian Dallamore, brand manager of Liberty Investments, says, “We have a passion for seeing the youth market progress in the financial literacy space. We encourage all students in the participating schools and universities to take this investment challenge seriously and gain invaluable knowledge on the fundamentals of saving and investing.”
Since registration opened for the Investment Challenge on the 21 January this year 140 schools and 28 universities across the country have already signed up to compete.
