The SAB Foundation Social Innovation Awards 2016 is open for entry. It is open to any South African with an innovative product or service that demonstrates both a viable business model as well as measurable social impact. It carries a first prize of R1.2 million, significant other prizes along with business development support to assist with venture growth.
SAB Foundation believes in the importance of social innovation in addressing some of South Africa’s most pressing social challenges, particularly those affecting women, the youth, people living with disabilities and people living in rural areas.
Previous award winning innovations have improved efficiency and/or affordability in housing, health care, small holder farming techniques, education, medical diagnostics, waste disposal, township security, fire prevention, support for people with disabilities, to name but a few. To date, the Social Innovation Awards programme has invested in 63 entrepreneurs and has seen a turnover increase of 61% and job growth of 62.5%.
Applications close at midday (12h00) on 31 May 2016 and all applications must be completed online.
