Much attention is focussed on big business so it’s refreshing to see a competition that promotes smaller enterprises. The Small Business Awards with Talk Radio 702 and Softline Pastel give small businesses a much-needed kickstart. Tell the organisers about a small business you think deserves the credit and they’ll tell everyone else about them. All entrants benefit from the publicity generated by the awards, regardless of whether they win.
How to Enter
Anybody can nominate a small business in their community, as long as they give good service above and beyond expectations. You can nominate them in one of two ways, on the website www.sba.702.co.za or by email sba@702.co.za.
Who can Enter
Nominees must comply with the definition of the ‘small enterprise ‘ as contained in the National Small Business Act, 102 of 1996. The ‘small enterprise’ definition is a business entity owned by one or more owners and which can be classified as a micro, very small, small or medium enterprise as more fully elucidated in size or class by subsector in the Schedule to the Act. The nominee small business may range from a start-up to mature business as long as the requirements have been met according to the Act mentioned above.
The determining factor is the ‘customer experience’ or ‘quality of service’ where the small business is seen to have gone the extra mile.
Previous winners and finalists can be re-nominated, and entries close at midday on 5 September.
The Prizes
Softline Pastel will award the winner and runners up with a laptop that has Accounting, Payroll, HR and other business software preloaded onto the laptop. They will also receive a free Pastel training course or seminar of their choice, as well as a year’s worth of software support.
The winner will be awarded R100 000 in airtime on 702, and the two runners-up will receive R50 000 each in airtime on the station.
