Tax incentives are being introduced for businesses that can show measurable energy savings.
Businesses have to register with the SA National Energy Development Institute (Sanedi) to qualify for the tax cuts.
The expected tax relief would be a 45 cents deduction on taxable income per kilowatt hour of energy saved.
The Private Sector Energy Efficiency Project (PSEE), a collaboration between the department and the National Business Initiative, has also been launched to promote energy efficiency.
This project, funded by the United Kingdom’s foreign international development department, aims to help about 60 large companies, 1 000 medium-sized companies, and 2 500 small businesses become more energy efficient.
