The Master Of Business Administration (MBA) is comprised of subjects that together make up the science of management. It is intended for people who have extensive prior business and management knowledge and are seeking to develop that knowledge further. It is recognised as a particularly useful qualification against the backdrop of a constantly evolving economic landscape. MBA graduates have an advanced understanding of human resources, operations, marketing, finance, strategy, information management and organisational behaviour. They also emerge with a profound understanding of business issues and skills that enable them to meet the demands of a competitive business environment. Perhaps even more importantly, the MBA also focuses on softer skills, such as the ability to influence people, interact with a broad spectrum of colleagues, customers and suppliers, and negotiate with individuals from all walks of life.
A recent Markinor survey found that 89% of MBA graduates agreed that they had learnt to think strategically, while 83% said they had gained decision-making skills as well as the ability to think creatively.
There is a wide range of MBA programmes available in South Africa. If you are thinking about enrolling, first decide what it is you aim to achieve in terms of skills and competencies, and what your financial and time constraints are.
