8. Tim Hogins Started As A Security Guard
Tim Hogins knows what a hard-knock-life is all about. Born in a township, Hogin’s parents were traders and he had to help support the family as soon as he was old enough. When Hogin matriculated with exemption, his family couldn’t afford to send him to university, so he and his cousin enrolled in a security guard course and was employed at one of the firm’s top industrial sites.
Hogin took the position as an opportunity – if he did his job well he would progress through the ranks – a philosophy that he has applied throughout his life. Constantly looking for new opportunities, Hogin considered many business ideas until he kept coming back to the outdoor gym idea.
Today, Green Outdoor Gyms has a projected turnover of R150 million and has self-funded three huge lifestyle parks for underprivileged children.
