What’s this app?
This app allows students and tutors to digitally connect with each other and arrange for a meeting in a time and place that suits both of them. This streamlines the process, by making it a paperless option for students looking for tutors.
The whizzes behind this app
Tuta-Me founders Abed Tau and Dylan Hyslop decided to do something about the declining state of education in South Africa. They use technology to improve students’ access to tutors for various subjects.
“Dylan and I started talking about this a year ago and we wanted to know how we could contribute positively to the state of education in the country.
“Access to good quality education is a challenge, as a lot of people can’t afford private schooling. We wanted to make an impact on and improve access to education,” explains Tau.
What makes it so unique?
The app allows students to reach out to tutors and choose a venue of their choice, whether it’s their home or a favourite coffee shop. This service is offered throughout South Africa and the fees are much lower in comparison to traditional tutoring businesses.
“Our big aim is to get the numbers and the volume and then get partners on board, such as big banks or cell phone companies,” reveals Tau. This way, tutoring for the underprivileged can be sponsored and free.
