Social networks are great communication tools if you know how to use them. Many people, unfortunately don’t: they either inflict every thought that passes through their head on everyone else, make inflammatory comments, or are irrelevant and/or boring. For business, the same rules apply, and more. Here are some do’s and don’ts:
DON’T:
- Rage about something political because something has ticked you off.
- Rant about a customer, partner or competitor.
- Mingle personal messages with business or marketing messages.
- Focus only on selling products or services. Social networking is about conversing with your market.
- Automate cross-posting of the same content on multiple channels. Many social networkers are on multiple platforms.
- Ignore comments, likes or messages by followers
- Ignore your page – update, update, update
DO:
- Engage followers with relevant information, photos, links and videos
- Tailor your content to the relevant platform. Facebook doesn’t force comments into 140 characters
- Take the time to think before posting content.
- Try offer new content frequently.
