6. Pioppo pivoted from event furniture to at-home workstations
Co-owners of Pioppo, Rachael and Carlo Giordani were hit hard by COVI-19 when event industries were shut down.
“Overnight 100% of our orders were cancelled and it’s had a massive impact on us, our staff and the future of our business”, says Rachael.
The company outlook looked bleak, and they had to have several tough conversations with their staff.
They had to do something to salvage their business, so Carlo and Rachael looked for ways to pivot their business by creating a new income stream. They shifted from creating furniture for events to developing a range of hand-made ergonomic workstations for work at home.
The business idea lesson:
Thinking on your feet is important when developing your business. Consider how you can quickly adapt your business idea to produce new income streams, so that you aren’t solely reliant on one income stream.
“We’ve shifted our focus to meet new demands, making a positive social impact whilst keeping the lights on in our business. We are used to thinking on our feet and quickly adapting to the changes in front of us,” says Carlo.
