Importantly, though, they will only be allowed to sell beer, and no other alcoholic beverages. Moreover, Burger King is only allowed to sell alcohol between the hours of 11am and 8pm, and the alcohol content of its beer may not exceed 5%. Of course, customers will also not be allowed to leave the premises with a beer in hand. All alcohol has to be consumed on the premises.
It might seem strange to sell beer at a quick-service restaurant — and indeed, it isn’t common in the United States, UK or South Africa — but it is a fairly common occurrence on the free-thinking Continent. Characters in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 film Pulp Fiction discuss at length the fact that McDonald’s in France sells beer, and the franchise still sells alcohol today.
That said, it seems unlikely that McDonald’s or Burger King will start selling beer locally any time soon.
