The Gauteng Government has set aside R160 million in 2015 to revitalise township economies and address poverty, inequality and unemployment. SME incubation hubs are at the helm of this revitalisation to ensure there is mobilisation of formal and informal businesses in the townships.
The upcoming Township Business Expo is geared towards empowerment and development of booming township economies. The focus for these workshops is to capacitate and disseminate information to entrepreneurs who want to access markets and tap into the mainstream economy.
The organisers would specifically like to see businesses move from operating in the informal economy to the formal economy.
1000 delegates representing SMEs will attend — subject to their fulfilling certain criteria — and will be exposed to information on how to grow their businesses, procurement procedures from both the private and governmental sector, and products and services designed to enhance productivity. Selected SME’s will also get to showcase their products and services to hosted buyers.
