The new Awethu Accelerator is focusing on attracting entrepreneurs with disruptive, scalable business ideas focused on low-income communities.
These ideas are required to have a clear exit strategy. In addition, applications have now been opened up to all individuals, regardless of their background.
In addition to the Awethu Project’s investment resources, its experience and knowledge of low-income markets makes them an ideal partner for pioneering entrepreneurs looking to approach under-resourced communities.
The accelerator identifies highly skilled and/or experienced entrepreneurs with bold ideas that include under-resourced communities in their value chain.
In exchange for a reasonable equity stake, Awethu invests in their early development, prepares them to pitch to its investor network and supports them in securing funding to launch and scale their businesses.
How to qualify
Although the Awethu Accelerator is open to any innovative proposal, the ideas it is most interested in typically adhere to the following guidelines:
- They offer high potential returns for investors
- They are implementable within the accelerator period (6 months)
- They have significant impact on low-income markets
- They present a clear exit strategy
- They are led by entrepreneurs with relevant domain expertise (skills and/or experience).
