BHP Billiton Manganese South Africa and private sector small business incubator company, Raizcorp, launched BHP Billiton Metalloys’ R14 million Enterprise Development project this week.
BHP Billiton Manganese South Africa, through its Metalloys operation in Meyerton, has committed to funding Raizcorp’s work in the Mid Vaal over a three year period in the effort to stimulate and support local businesses. Raizcorp, which has an eleven year track record of success in entrepreneurial development, manages the Business Support Centre in Meyerton on a day-to-day basis using their unique incubation methodology, called Prosperation, which is recognised both locally and internationally. Through Raizcorp, the project offers local entrepreneurs a comprehensive Entrepreneurial Development Programme, including Council of Higher Education Accredited learning modules (NQF level 5 or diploma equivalent) and world class entrepreneurial coaching and guidance. Through the Prosperator, the programme also offers all the necessary systems and resources including office equipment, infrastructure, bookkeeping and more, to assist entrepreneurial companies to grow into thriving, profitable businesses. Forty two beneficiaries are already undergoing training at the Prosperator with more in the pipeline.
Local opportunities
“This programme addresses the heart of how BHP Billiton Manganese South Africa views Enterprise Development. These projects are not only about providing local communities with opportunities, but also supporting them through the process, ensuring that we are an effective partner and, together with these budding entrepreneurs, are able to grow successful, profitable and, most importantly, sustainable businesses for the communities in which we operate,” said BHP Billiton Manganese South Africa President, Ravi Moodley.
“Too often enterprise development is viewed as a numbers game and tick box exercise. Raizcorp is proud to be associated with BHP Billiton Manganese South Africa, which has committed to taking a high quality approach to their enterprise development,” said Raizcorp CEO, Allon Raiz.
According to a BHP Billiton Metalloys spokesperson, the company believes it will only be successful in creating value when the communities in which it operates value its citizenship as captured by its Charter. “As part of BHP Billiton Manganese South Africa, Metalloys strives to continuously add value to the lives of our host communities and establish a legacy that will outlast our operations. It is through initiatives like this Enterprise Development Project that we aim to create shared value with our communities and to confirm and solidify our citizenship and community membership,” said the spokesperson.
