Anglo American will introduce an Entrepreneur Internship Programme (EIP) to support accelerated economic growth. High-potential entrepreneurs will be provided the opportunity to gain valuable business experience and to establish and develop their own business, creating new jobs in the process.
Anglo American will select four to six entrepreneurs to participate in this exciting initiative starting from March 2012. The EIP will be an intensive nine to twelve month programme that provides participants with exposure to relevant aspects of Anglo American’s business functions and operations within its value chain.
Entrepreneurial catalyst
The EIP aims to be a catalyst for entrepreneurs interested in developing or growing a business, but do not have access to the requisite skills, industry knowledge, business networks and support. Interns will be provided programmatic and experiential learning, which will equip them with the necessary skills to successfully establish and grow their business by the end of 2012.
Godfrey Gomwe, executive director of Anglo American South Africa said, “This ground breaking, targeted programme will leverage Anglo American’s strengths to make a significant, positive and sustainable contribution to employment creation and economic development in the communities in which we operate.”
Anglo American will look both internally and externally for potential candidates. These individuals should either have prior experience with starting or running a business, or show high potential based on the entrepreneurial assessment which forms part of the selection process.
Throughout the programme, entrepreneurs will be provided mentorship, enabling them to develop a business plan to start their new company or expand an existing one. The EIP will remain closely aligned to Anglo American Supply Chain and Zimele, its enterprise development arm.
To apply for the EIP go to www.angloamerican.co.za. Applications should be submitted by 15 December 2011.
