Improved job performance: Studies have revealed that TM increases the behaviour that leads to promotions (efficiency and output), but relieves work-related anxiety and increases job satisfaction.
Stress reduction = organisational health: Organisations that promote TM are happier. Stressful employees snap at each other, which lowers morale, customer service and ultimately productivity and turnover.
Not convinced?
If you associate TM with hippies in leather sandals sitting cross-legged in incense-filled rooms listening to plinky-plunky music, you’ve missed one of the biggest scientific (and business) revolutions since the 70s.
TM isn’t only for yogis. It’s a scientifically proven method of improving brain function, concentration, lowering stress levels and basically becoming a happier, healthier, better performing member of society.
Here’s how:
- Oxygen consumption drops during sleep because we are completely at rest, so we burn less energy. This is good because our bodies need rest to recuperate from the vigours of daily life. The metabolic rate of meditating subjects is lower than during sleep and happens within five to ten minutes instead of six to seven hours
- A slowing down of heart rate and breathing gives your heart a chance to slow down and rest for a few minutes daily. This slower pulse rate becomes stabilised in TM practices, which means a healthier heart, less stress and a longer life.
- Deep relaxation. TM practitioners react to stress differently, returning to a state of non-stress far quicker than non-practitioners.
- A decrease in blood lactate, indicating reduction of anxiety and stress.Practised properly, TM decreases lactate in the blood (stress hormone). Less lactate, less stress.
- Increased alpha and theta brain-wave activity, spreading from the rear to the central and frontal areas of the brain. TM has been proven to result in more ‘orderly’ brain waves, which means brain function is increased.
Everything good about the brain and what it controls (or efficiency, productivity, intelligence levels, happiness and relaxation) depends on orderly thinking, which is shown to increase with regular TM practice in non-meditative states — the ultimate payoff in business and life.
