2. James Robertson and Phillip Cronje Started a Flea Market Store
Originally a flea market store way back in 1986, James Robertson co-founded South Africa’s well-known retail brand Big Blue. Today, the company has over R100 million annual turnover. But branching out from a pop-up store was challenging – they needed to differentiate themselves from all the other boutique retail stores. Their approach was to experiment until they found the winning differentiator.
“Try stuff and if it works, keep on doing it; if it doesn’t, stop,” advises Robertson.
