As participants of National Youth Entrepreneurship Awards in 2017, Sekwele and Nkambule, grade 10 students from Leap Maths and Science, created jewellery in the form of a wristband and pendant with a built-in panic button for emergencies.
Once pressed, the button sends an emergency SOS signal to a designated list of parents and police should the wearer feel threatened or in danger. The band has a GPS tracker embedded in it to inform the recipient of the SOS call of the location of the person in distress. This device was designed in response to the rising cases of abduction of young girls by enabling them to send a distress call.
